This project involved a review of the Accreditation Guide for JMO training posts and the accompanying survey document. The project was to provide a national benchmark for the accreditation of training posts for doctors in their prevocational years.
The NSW Accreditation Guide had been reviewed twice since 1988, however there had been little change to the structure of the accompanying survey document. Following the review, the Accreditation Guide and survey document were simplified and brought up to date to maintain the relevance of the Standards and Accreditation program.
JMOs need ready access to clinical information when working on the wards and for years JMOs have carried around a variety of commercial and 'in-house' publications.
This project surveyed JMOs regarding their current use of handbooks on wards and their preferred source(s) of information with a view to developing standardised sources of information that are portable, online and/or paper-based.
In 1998, the PMEFQ was funded to develop a curriculum framework for prevocational medical education within Queensland and with scope to be widened into a national framework. National Curriculum Frameworks for the disciplines of General Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatrics and Anaesthetics were developed.
This project extended the current National Curriculum Frameworks to include the disciplines of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Psychiatry and Emergency Medicine. At the same time, an educational teaching module for Registrars to complement the National Curriculum with a view to improving the quality and structure of training for junior doctors within hospitals was developed as part of the project.
