Terms of Reference - Assessment Working Party

The Assessment Working Party (AWP) of the Australian Curriculum Framework for Junior Doctors Project is responsible for the development and recommendation of a National Assessment Strategy. Its activities will include but not be limited to the:

  • Identification of current assessment practices relevant to the ACFJD at a state PMC level and colleges/universities.
  • Liaison with the AMC and other bodies dealing with assessment methods including those being developed under the Competent Authorities model.
  • Review of the potential range of assessment instruments for each Capability.
  • Development of an assessment strategy which identifies instruments for formative and summative assessment relevant to the Curriculum Framework, that is valid, reliable, cost effective, sustainable and with the appropriate educational impact, yet sufficiently robust to make defensible decisions about doctors who underperform.
  • Presentation of the assessment strategy to the NSG for endorsement.
  • Development of a plan to pilot the assessment strategy including:
  1. Pilot sites
  2. Tools to be used
  3. Resources required
  • Implementation and Evaluation of the piloting of the proposed Assessment Strategy
  • Communication regarding the activities of the AWP with all relevant stakeholders in particular the JMO's in line with the ACFJD communication plan.
  • Development of recommendations regarding resource implications for a national implementation of the Assessment Strategy including assessor training
  • Consideration as to whether the Curriculum Framework assessment may in the future assist in addressing issues of underperformance, and recommendations thereon to the NSG.
  • Review of proposals from the NSG and provide advice as appropriate.
  • Liaison with other Working Parties set up under the NSG.
  • Review of ongoing feedback on assessment issues with regard to the Curriculum Framework and make recommendations.
  • Receipt of reports from relevant MTRP projects and subsequent recommendations as required.
  • Presentation, through the Chair or representative, of progress reports to the National Steering Group.
