Exploration and development of potential models of flexible working arrangements for junior doctors in hospital positions (PMC NSW)

This project identifies generic models of flexible working arrangements for junior doctors in hospital positions, both for the PGY1 and PGY2 that could be implemented in different areas (regional, rural and metropolitan) and be nationally applicable.

The project includes an initial scoping study to identify the need for flexible working arrangements in NSW/ACT and what models of flexible working in hospitals currently exist. A focus group featuring key stakeholders is identifying the barriers to flexible working conditions which will need to be overcome. From this point, a series of potential models of flexible working scenarios will be developed.

Professional development of registrars supervising junior medical staff (PMCV)

This project sought to broaden programs, which focus on the development of registrars' teaching and supervision skills, to encompass professional development including leadership, management and personal development skills and career planning.

The project included a scoping study, a national workshop, an evaluation of the outcomes of existing programs and promotion and dissemination of best practice.

Assessment of learning needs in postgraduate medical trainees: learning needs analysis (PMCV)

This project identified the education needs of medical graduates in their PGY1 and PGY2 years, as well as those doctors in their third postgraduate year (PGY3) who are not enrolled in a speciality training program (non vocational PGY3).

The aim of the project was to determine the educational needs and deficiencies that Junior Medical Officers (JMOs) perceive exist in their postgraduate training.

Improving the wellbeing and self-care of JMOs (NT General Practice Education Limited (NTGPE)

The "Teaching on the Run" (TOTR) project is a modular staff development program for clinicians responsible for trainees at all levels.

The project aims to extend the TOTR program through making further modules available to all States and Territories, and making the modules suitable for a wider range of audiences by modifying the material and developing medical educational material for continuing development of clinicians.

Teaching on the run: extension of a clinical staff development program in Australia (WA PMC)

This project aims to improve the wellbeing and self-care of JMOs by developing a program to assess current wellbeing of, and levels of awareness and use of self-care strategies by JMOs, including health care behaviour.

NTGPE is developing and implementing a structured program that provides strategies for improved self-care and sustainability of medical practice, in non-metropolitan settings, with some emphasis on rural and remote locations, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander settings. Levels of wellbeing and use of self-care practices by participating JMOs will then be reassessed.

A CD ROM, DVD or videotape will be developed in which JMOs and other medical practitioners demonstrate effective and beneficial self-care strategies and identify the way(s) in which it has improved their levels of wellbeing and self-care practices.
